NEXSW Tour 2023: New Paltz to Shelburne

 Tour recap: June 13, 2023

This Tuesday was a travel day, since we had a gig scheduled at noon all the way up in Burlington on Wednesday, about 220 miles and 4 hours away. I managed to fit in a solo bike ride in the morning along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail before we left. The exercise and the views always do me good.

Walkers, runners, bikers, and dogs had to skirt around this guy:

We left New Paltz late morning, and stopped for lunch in Saugerties, at a place called The Dutch. The food was great, and we also found out that they have live music there. Mental note of a possible new venue for us in the future.

We drove on up to Shelburne, VT, where we had booked a "rustic cabin". We expected a peaceful bucolic setting but instead found the cabins all scrunched together overlooking a construction site. Ugh.

Thankfully the guy let us cancel our reservation on the spot without charge. That left us without lodging for the night, so we had to scramble to find something that didn't suck and also didn't break the bank. We managed to get a room at the local Quality Inn.

We had beer and wood-fired pizza for dinner at the Fiddlehead Brewing Company. The pizza actually came from the neighboring, attached establishment.

Right across the street was a winery that hosts live music; another mental note filed. We wanted to do a tasting, but they were having a ticketed event so it was closed to us. Next time.
