NEXSW Tour 2023: The first homeward bound

Tour recap: June 24-26

The Northeast portion of the tour was essentially over; the gigs were done and we just had a few people to see on the way home. We said our goodbyes to Chris and Mark on Saturday morning, and hit the road.

Crossing the Connecticut River

We stopped in South Hadley, MA to have lunch with my old high school friend Anne and her husband Mark. We hung out on their new screened-in deck, and John peppered them with questions because he wanted to get his own constructed. (And he does, in fact, now have his own.)

Friends since the mid-80s!

We left in the late afternoon so that we could make it to my godparents' house in Yorktown Heights, NY by dinner time. We stayed the night there. As always, Diane and Peter were very warm and welcoming. The next morning, we went to J.V.'s bagel shop, where many framed posters of Peter's father's comic book covers hang on the walls (slightly altered by Peter to include bagel references).

Then more goodbyes, and more driving.

We spent Sunday night in Harrisburg, PA, and took an evening bike ride along the Susquehanna River. I took about a million pictures and it was hard to pick which ones to show here!

Woodchucks were everywhere along the trail!

The Holocaust Memorial was strikingly sad and beautiful at sunset.

Monday, after many hours of driving, we got back home to Richmond, where we would spend a few days snuggling our pets, doing laundry, and generally catching up on "normal" life before heading out again on the southwestern Virginia portion of the tour.
