The weekend was packed!
Friday night, we played as a duo at Legend Brewery. The weather was uncooperative, so we played inside instead of out on the deck. Still had a good time though! Some friends from my old workplace showed up, as well as our guitarist Ray (as a spectator, not a player) and his wife Amy, who supplied these pictures.
Saturday morning, I drove over to John's house before the road closed around 11 am for the neighborhood music festival, Porchella. We got the dog walk in before the festival started, knowing there would be no time later in the day given that we had an evening gig as well.
Here's an article about Porchella that came out in 2020. They got our names mixed up, but still -- cool to have it documented that our practicing on the porch was part of the inspiration for a whole festival!
For this spring's festival, all the bands got a single 40-minute set. We played the first two songs as an acoustic trio with John on upright bass and the exceptionally fashionable Summer on cajon. Given that format, I think a lot of people were surprised that we barged right out of the gate with a punk song - "I Wanna be Sedated" by the Ramones! We followed up with a rendition of "I'm on Fire" by Bruce Springsteen, then added Ray on acoustic guitar for few. Later the upright bass was swapped out for the electric bass, Ray put away the acoustic in favor of the electric guitar, and Blee joined in on the drums. Summer overlapped with Blee on one song where she played the washboard. Sadly, our backing vocalist Jolie couldn't join us because she was sick. We had an amazing crowd out there on Greycourt Avenue! After finishing our Porchella set, we packed up as quickly as we could. Our minivan is out of commission so everything was crammed into my little Honda Fit (and the upright bass does NOT fit, so John had to play electric). And then we drove the hour and a half to Waynesboro where we played (again as a duo) for the first time at Seven Arrows Brewing Co.
They have a nice space there and the acoustics were pretty good. Both the beer and the food from their in-house kitchen were tasty, too! I took it real easy on the beer since we had to drive all the way back home that night. I got a grape slushie for the road.
